Mother's Day comes early for Georgetown, KY family after winning $167.3 million Powerball jackpot

Mother’s Day came early for one Central Kentucky woman after her son bought a $2 Powerball ticket for last Saturday night’s drawing that ended up making Kentucky Lottery history with a $167.3 million jackpot prize, the largest prize ever awarded.

Linda Grizzle and her son, Shannon Farthing, both of Georgetown, who are splitting the winnings came to the Lottery on Monday, April 28, 2025, to present the winning ticket that was purchased at Clark’s Pump N Shop, 480 Connector Rd., Georgetown, Ky. 40324.

“It’s going to be a good Mother’s Day,” Grizzle said. “This is going to pay off my debt.”

Grizzle told the Lottery that she called her son on Sunday when she thought that she had the winning ticket. She said he rushed home, and they went back to Clark’s Pump N Shop to show the ticket to the retailer.

“I would have never dreamed it; it hasn’t sunken in yet,” she joked.

Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Mary Harville said this is an exciting day for Kentucky. She is constantly asked by players when Kentucky is going to get a Powerball Jackpot win.

“Kentucky finally has a Powerball jackpot winner! And not just any Powerball jackpot prize, it is a record for Kentucky. It is $167.3 million,” Harville said. “This is so exciting for the winners because the winners have won $167.3 million but also for the retailer. They are going to get a commission for selling that big winner. And then, of course, the citizens, the people of the Commonwealth, everyone's a winner. Because Kentucky Lottery proceeds fund college scholarships and grants for our Kentucky college students to go to college right here in Kentucky.”

The winning ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball from the drawing on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The Powerball numbers were 1-12-14-18-69 and the Powerball was 2.

The mom and son have the choice to receive 30 graduated annual payments or to take the cash option amount for the $167.3 million jackpot, which is $77.3 million.

The family said they are talking with their financial adviser to determine the best choice of payment.

This is now the largest Powerball jackpot ever won in Kentucky. Previously, the largest Powerball win was a $128.6 million jackpot sold in December 2009, also at a Georgetown retailer – ProTravel Marathon. The last Powerball jackpot won in Kentucky was in December 2010 at a Simpsonville, KY retailer. Past Kentucky Powerball winners can be found here.

Clark’s Pump N Shop in Georgetown will receive over $37,000 for selling the winning ticket.

In 2024, the Kentucky Lottery paid out more than $1.5 billion in prizes. Kentucky Lottery proceeds have funded scholarships and grants for more than 1 million Kentucky students.
